Dallas Cowboys mailbag: Questions on contracts, the Super Bowl, and head coach choices

Here is our latest Dallas Cowboys mailbag.

Every week, we take questions on X (Twitter) and Facebook about Dallas Cowboys players and other issues surrounding the team. So let’s get right into it.

“Of the established players that have contract renewals coming up, who do you think we’ll keep and who are likely to be let go because of the cap? Or do you think the errors of before carry on and they’ll restructure players and kick the can down the road”

(Steven BarkerMountford on Facebook)

Mike: One player who may have priced himself out of Dallas is Osa Odighizuwa. Talented 3-techs are hard to find which means the supply and demand on those type players are out of control. That makes for a high price tag on 3-techs and that’s been seen in recent years. Odighizuwa certainly proved he was a talented inside defensive lineman last season and with the cap problems Dallas has to deal with this season, as well as other major contracts to figure out, Odighizuwa could be headed elsewhere.

Another safe bet is Brandin Cooks. He’s such a good WR2 and Dallas was extremely lucky to have such a talented outside receiver. But thanks to that talent and given his age, Cooks will be looking to cash in and Dallas just can’t afford to play contact gymnastics with him.

Then of course there’s two Cowboys legends, Zack Martin and DeMarcus Lawrence. Personally the feeling I get is one of them gets retained, not sure which one.

Dana: Along with Osa Odighizuwa, Jourdan Lewis is at the top of my list to keep. He has been so consistent in the Cowboys’ secondary and he has earned another contract extension in my opinion. Another long standing vet they should bring back is DeMarcus Lawrence. While the Cowboys’ front office may not want to pay him top dollar to come back, that may be okay with him. He is heading towards the end of his career and his family is established in Dallas. It could be very possible for both sides to see eye to eye on this.

KaVontae Turpin is a restricted free agent so the Cowboys have the ultimate say if they want to pay his market value to have him back, but he’s another player that they should try to retain. Hopefully, the new coaching staff will figure out how to get the most out of him on offense if they do decide to keep him.

“So, Eagles and Chiefs in the Super Bowl then. Who do you guys think wins this one?”

(Alex Johnson on Facebook)

Mike: Ughhhh, it’s not a great lineup if you’re a Cowboys fan. But you have to take the lesser of two evils in this case and seeing Philadelphia win another Lombardi and have the insufferable fans meme the heck out of the fact would be a nightmare. Give me the Three-Peat over Eagles fans gloating for another year.

Dana: I am not as big of a...
