Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones made a unique contract decision that will cost All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs a pretty penny.

Trevon Diggs is entering the second season of a five-year, $97 million contract extension he signed in 2023. But his decision to cut back on offseason workouts this year will cost him about 1/200th of that deal.

According to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys exercised a clause in Diggs’ contract that will cost him $500,000. Per Watkins, the docked pay stems from Diggs failing to participate in at least 84 percent of offseason workouts.

Dallas had the option not to enforce the clause, Watkins reports, but decided to do so anyway. It was noted that Trevon Diggs has done the majority of his injury rehab away from the Cowboys’ team facility.

The former 2020 second-round pick earned back-to-back Pro Bowl nods in 2021 and 2022. He suffered a season-ending ACL tear in a practice after two games in 2023 and was limited to 11 contests last season before undergoing another procedure on his knee.

Damn: The #Cowboys are deducting Trevon Diggs salary by $500,000 after he did not complete 84% of offseason workouts with the team which was required by his contract, per @calvinwatkins

The Cowboys begin their 2025 regular season against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the Kickoff Game on Sept. 4. Diggs hopes to play that game, but his status won’t be known til closer to the date.

Cowboys Need A Healthy Trevon Diggs To Return To Postseason

After Diggs suffered a season-ending injury in 2023, DaRon Bland emerged as a star and earned First-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors. Unfortunately, he was limited to just seven games last season.

If Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland can both stay healthy in 2025, the Cowboys could field the league’s best cornerback tandem. With limited game-changers on defense, they need Diggs on the field if they’re to rebound from last year’s disappointing 7-10 season.
