The Dallas Cowboys, and more specifically the Jones family, are apparently doing everything they can to not sign superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons to a contract extension.

As if it weren’t bad enough that team owner Jerry Jones antagonized Parsons and teammate Trevon Diggs recently, now his son Stephen, who serves as the team’s CEO, has gotten in on the act.

“We want to pay Micah, too. He’s got to want to be paid, too,” Stephen Jones recently told members of the media when asked about Cowboys fans chanting “Pay Micah” at training camp.

If you’re wondering what that means, you’re not the only one. In fact, Parsons has been adamant for over a year now that he wants to sign a long-term contract extension with Dallas.

Micah Parsons Is Growing Frustrated With The Dallas Cowboys Over Contract Talks

Parsons wants to play for the Cowboys. But he’s not going to get taken advantage of in contract negotiations. After a year of talks with the organization, it now seems that negotiations have reached a standstill, and he can’t seem to figure out why.

“I mean, honest, there’s not really much movement, man,” Parsons said recently. “You know, I want to be here. I’ve always said I want to be here. But at the end of the day, they sign the checks like always, and let’s see if they want me to be here at the end of the day.”

The Dallas Cowboys Are Just Making Things Harder On Themselves

Dallas has garnered a reputation for waiting until the last second to get major contract extensions done. Not only does that typically lead to more expensive deals, it also gives the Cowboys less cap flexibility.

In this case, the team waited until after the Pittsburgh Steelers gave TJ Watt a three-year, $123 million contract extension.

That deal made Watt the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL and likely reset the market for any potential Parsons deal. While Watt has been marginally better than Parsons in recent years, he’s also older and coming off a major injury.

The longer Dallas waits, the more it will almost certainly need to pay Parson. So, yet again, Stephen Jones’ comments don’t seem to make any sense as the stalemate between the team and its superstar player drags on.
