In the early hours of Saturday morning, tragedy struck North Central Expressway in Richardson, Texas. A young woman is dead, and former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Kelvin Joseph now finds himself behind bars, facing serious charges tied to a deadly crash.
Police say the crash happened just before 5 a.m. near Park Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found 27-year-old Cody Morris of Plano unresponsive. She had been driving a motorcycle and died at the scene. No other vehicles were present when first responders got there, leaving many questions about how the incident unfolded.
Around 5:30 a.m., Plano police received a call from Kelvin Joseph Jr., a 25-year-old former second-round pick by the Cowboys. Joseph told officers he had been driving a BMW sedan and had collided with the motorcycle. When police met with him, they said he showed signs of intoxication.
Authorities arrested Joseph and charged him with driving while intoxicated and a collision involving personal injury or death. He is currently in custody at the Richardson Jail. As of Saturday evening, officials have not set a bond.

Joseph’s arrest marks another troubling chapter in his story. In 2022, Dallas police questioned him after a deadly shooting on Lower Greenville. At the time, he was inside a vehicle linked to the incident but was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing. The victim in that case, 20-year-old Cameron Ray, was gunned down outside the OT Tavern Bar.
The Cowboys drafted Joseph out of Kentucky in 2021, but he lasted just two seasons in Dallas before being traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2023. He later bounced between several NFL teams, including the Seahawks, Chiefs, Colts, and Vikings. He now plays for the DC Defenders.
Police are still investigating what led to the crash. They’re asking anyone with information to contact Richardson Police at 972-744-4944.
Cody Morris’s family and loved ones now face an unimaginable loss. Meanwhile, Kelvin Joseph’s football career and future hang in the balance as legal proceedings begin to unfold.
