Aaron Rodgers reportedly won’t be a member of the New York Jets next season. Neither will Davante Adams, most likely. But any thoughts of Adams making his way to the Pittsburgh Steelers should probably go by the wayside.
Adams, a-time first-team Associated Press All-Pro receiver has spent the bulk of his career catching passes from Rodgers. With Rodgers on his way out, it’s hard to envision Adams being willing to stick around, especially with what he’s on the books for.
“Davante Adams left his 2025 contract unchanged and his $38.3M cap number is untenable,” Ian Rapoport wrote Sunday on X. “He’d have to agree to a new deal to stay. And with Aaron Rodgers moving on, Adams likely will, as well. Adams would like to be on the West Coast, I’m told.”
The Las Vegas Raiders traded Davante Adams to the Jets last October, reuniting him with the accomplished passer he spent eight seasons with in Green Bay. He started 11 games in New York after that swap, catching 67 passes for 854 yards and seven touchdowns. The Jets went 3-8 in those games.
If Adams prefers to migrate over to the West Coast, the NFC West would be in play, as well as the Los Angeles Chargers. Adams attended Palo Alto High School and later starred on the gridiron with Derek Carr at Fresno State.
As it stands, the Steelers receiving room is largely ordinary, save for mercurial talent George Pickens. Pickens’ contract runs through next season, leaving Pittsburgh to decide whether they want to hold serve, extend him, or trade him.
