For a while, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has told the media that reinforcements for the defense would be on their way. Now it looks like his words officially ring true. DeMarvion Overshown is on his way back.

Jones hasn’t been the only one teasing an early return for Overshown. The player has remained optimistic since the schedule was announced, and he took to social media saying he would be on the field for Thanksgiving when Dallas takes on the Kansas City Chiefs.

Last week, head coach Brian Schottenheimer told the media the team expected to open up his practice window as early as Week 8, so this falls right in line with where Dallas was hoping to be with their budding superstar linebacker.

Piling on the good news doesn’t hurt after the Cowboys’ defense had its best performance of the season against the Washington Commanders. The unit had four sacks, the second most in a single game for them all season. The linebacking corps looked better, but a healthy Overshown should be a huge boost at the position, and getting to the quarterback.

Before he went down with his season-ending injury in Week 14 of last year, Overshown totaled five sacks (second on the team), 90 combined tackles (second-most on the team), eight tackles for loss (most on the team), and had one interception for a touchdown.

The front office has hinted at the possibility of acquiring talent at the trade deadline. Diana Russini of The Athletic reported on Saturday, “The Cowboys have let the league know they are open for business. They are looking for defensive help…” Regardless of whether they trade for a defensive player or not, getting Overshown back to 100 percent will make the defense much better and should give the identity spark they desperately need.
