Inside The Star Inside The Star

The Dallas Cowboys have been a featured team ever since the NFL introduced Monday Night Football back in 1970. There have only been three seasons – 1989, 1990, and 2002 – that the team hasn’t played at least one game on a Monday night.

But this season, beginning with Monday night’s game at home against Arizona, they will do something they’ve never done before.

Play back-to-back games on Monday night.

It won’t be back-to-back weeks with the bye between the games. However, it will still be consecutive games. The last time Dallas played two Monday night games in a three-week stretch was back in 1973.

The Cowboys beat the Saints 40-3 in the second week of the season on a Monday night.

After playing on Sunday in Week 3, Dallas was back on Monday Night Football in Week 4, losing to the Redskins 14-7.

This is the 20th season, and second straight, that the Cowboys will play twice on Monday night. There could be a third if they draw the Monday night playoff game in the Wildcard round as they did in 2022.

One Night Stands

Out of the 56 seasons of Monday Night Football, the Cowboys have played one time during 24 of those seasons.

They had a streak of 15 consecutive seasons, 2007-2021, of making one appearance on Monday nights. The last time Dallas only played once on Monday night was back in 2023.

Dallas has had nine seasons of playing three times in a season on Monday night.

The last time that happened was all the way back in 2004. They won two of those three games that year.

Two of those seasons ended with 2–1 records on Monday night and a Super Bowl championship at the end of that season.

They’ve never played four games on Monday night in a single season.

The St. Louis Cardinals rolled to a 38-0 victory that night.
