Cowboys vs Commanders historical notes: Dak Prescott is operating at an elite level
Blogging The Boys Blogging The Boys

The Dallas Cowboys had their way with the Washington Commanders on Sunday afternoon. It was one of those games where just about everything went their way. Those types of contests are rare and we should celebrate it accordingly.

Obviously we are all ready and anxious to see if the Cowboys’ form from Sunday can be maintained in the future, but before we move all the way on we need to properly place Sunday’s game in its historical place. Thanks to the offerings of Stathead and Pro Football Reference we can literally do this.

Every week we fire up the DeLorean and assess what the Cowboys just did through the lens of both franchise and NFL history at large. Welcome to this week’s historical notes. They will be way more fun than last week’s.

Dak Prescott is operating at an insane level

Sunday marked the fourth game of the season for Dak Prescott in which he threw three touchdowns without any interceptions. He has done it four times in a row, by the way.

Prescott has now reached this feat 22 separate times in his career which is tied for the most in franchise history with Tony Romo.

2025 is without question the best year of Dak’s career so far

This isn’t exactly something that stands out with regards to history, but it feels important to mention. Below you will find the first seven games of each season of Prescott’s career save for 2020 (he did not reach seven games before being lost for the season with the ankle injury).

This season (again, this is the first seven games of each campaign) is easily the most efficient overall start for Dak. He has the third-most yards, second-most touchdowns, second-fewest interceptions, tied for the fewest sacks taken, and he is doing it all with the best completion percentage of the samplings.

He is in nirvana right now.

Javonte Williams had his second 100-yard game

Javonte Williams crossed the century mark on the ground for the Cowboys, his second time doing so as a member of the team. This is a list of the number of times a given player had a 100-yard game for the Cowboys in recent memory. Take a look.

Rico Dowdle had four games of 100 yards last season which is really something, but consider that the Cowboys only had one game of such kind in 2023 overall.

While 100 yards seems nice it is admittedly an arbitrary number. The purpose in bringing this up is to note how the Cowboys are getting some production on the ground that has been somewhat rare for the most part in recent seasons, especially with the potency of the passing game happening in parallel.

George Pickens continues to draw Amari Cooper comparisons

There are two players since 1970 to have 600 yards and six touchdowns receiving in their first seven games with the Cowboys. Both players were acquired by trade, and each of them had Dak Prescott...
