There was so much good on Sunday night from the Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys pulled off an impressive upset Sunday night in Week 16 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite knowing they had been officially eliminated from the playoffs, they still chose to play to win and accomplished their goal in a somewhat surprising and impressive manner.
This is the second week in a row the Cowboys were considered the underdog and the second consecutive time they beat the odds. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows though. There was plenty of positives and negatives to take place in this Week 16 matchup. Today will identify the good, the bad, and the ugly from this game.
The Cowboys got off to a quick start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 16. QB Cooper Rush threw for over 200 passing yards in the first half alone and ended with a total of 292 yards and one touchdown. The biggest recipient of that was WR CeeDee Lamb, catching seven passes for 105 yards. No. 88's talent and toughness was on full display Sunday night. He's been playing through a significant shoulder injury that may require off-season surgery, but still dominated Tampa Bay's secondary in a meaningless game.
Draft positioning be damned! Despite knowing they were officially eliminated from the playoffs before kick off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Cowboys still chose to do their best to put another "W" in the win column and succeeded. With every victory they slide further down in the draft order and would currently hold the 15th overall pick in the first-round of the 2025 NFL Draft if the season were to end today. With two games remaining on the regular-season schedule, it'll be interesting to see how things play out.
It wasn't all pretty, but the Cowboys defense continued to come through when it mattered most in Week 16 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They gave up plenty of big plays allowing the Buccaneers to stick around, but in the end they did just enough to secure their seventh win of the year. The difference between a loss and a victory probably goes down to Jourdan Lewis' and DaRon Bland's impressive turnovers. Both of these turnovers were game changers, likely keeping Tampa Bay from putting more points on the board.
