A new report from a top NFL insider suggests the Dallas Cowboys are in active talks to add impact talent to their struggling defense before the November 4 NFL trade deadline.
On Sunday, Dallas scored a big 44-22 win over division rivals the Washington Commanders. The victory got their record even at 3-3-1 and once again showed why they have one of the best offenses in the NFL right now. However, their defense remains one of the worst in the game. They allow the most passing yards and the third most points in the league.
But they are reportedly looking to make some defensive upgrades soon. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Dallas is in active conversations about additions for the defense. “I will not be surprised if we hear Dallas inquiring about various defensive players, and ultimately trading for one before the trade deadline.”
With that in mind, let’s look at five impact players they could target over the next couple of weeks.
After falling to 0-7 last week, the Miami Dolphins will surely be in trade mode, and there have already been trade rumors about former first-round pick Jaelan Phillips. The 26-year-old has dealt with injury issues during his five seasons in the league. However, when healthy, he is a high-impact pass rusher out of the linebacker spot. He is in the final year of his rookie pact. Meaning he is a rental and should come at a reasonable rate.
Las Vegas RaidersAlthough he has moved around a bit in recent years, Carolina Panthers veteran Jeremy Chinn has always been a very competent player in the secondary, and that is something the Cowboys badly need. With the Las Vegas Raiders’ season quickly going down the toilet, the six-year veteran should be available and acquired with a Day 3 draft pick.
In a perfect world, the Cowboys would make a blockbuster trade for Cincinnati Bengals star Trey Hendrickson. He would be the perfect short-term answer to the still-empty void after they traded Micah Parsons. He is the elite pass rusher they have missed all season. Three weeks ago, a trade seemed realistic. However, with Joe Flacco giving Cincy renewed playoff hopes, Hendrickson is likely to stay. But that still doesn’t mean Jerry Jones won’t call about his availability.
The Tennessee Titans are another team starting to look at the possibility of getting a top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. That means many of their well-paid veterans will be available. While he has not made the impact hoped for when they gave him a four-year deal last year, former Kansas City Chiefs star L’Jarius Sneed should be on the Cowboys’ wish list. He has never been a Pro Bowler, but was a key part of two Super Bowl-winning defenses and is exactly the type of play Dallas needs in their secondary.
