After a loss to the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium, the Dallas Cowboys were back at work on Tuesday. The loss in and of itself is meaningless, but the Cowboys had problems handling the rushing attack, and their passing game took a long time to gain its footing. Joe Milton had a spotty performance, and his accuracy left a lot to be desired before leaving the game early with a bruised elbow.
Fortunately, Milton was back at practice today as he tries to prepare for a better performance this week against the Baltimore Ravens. Week 2 of the preseason is pivotal for the reserve players on the bottom of the roster looking to hang on to a roster spot, especially for undrafted free agents. Here’s how today’s undrafted star of the day, Traeshon Holden, looked and what this means going forward.
Following a strong week of practice, Traeshon Holden used his limited opportunity against the Los Angeles Rams and delivered one of the scarce highlight plays of the night for the Cowboys’ offense. After his game Saturday, Holden was elevated on the team’s second depth chart. It’s great news for the undrafted rookie who celebrated his 24th birthday on Tuesday. Entering the week of preparation, the Cowboys shuffled around their second-team offensive line, and quarterback Joe Milton looked much better at practice, likely signifying more significant targets for Holden throughout the contest.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer has routinely showered Holden with effusive praise for his work ethic and versatility along the multiple wide receiver spots. For now, Holden appears to be the leader of the pack regarding the receivers at the bottom of the roster, edging past Jalen Brooks and Jalen Cropper. Many people’s pet cat of the summer has clawed his way to make this type of impression on the coaches. A shining performance against Baltimore on Saturday could cement his place on the roster.
