Cowboys trade news: Dallas trading for Bengals LB Logan Wilson

On the morning of the 2025 trade deadline, Dallas has sent a 2026 seventh-round draft pick to the Cincinnati Bengals for linebacker Logan Wilson. The veteran walks in as an immediate upgrade to one of the weakest points on the Cowboys’ historically bad defense.

Wilson, now in his sixth season, was a third-round pick by the Bengals in 2020. He emerged as a standout player and team captain during his first four seasons, earning a four-year, $36 million extension in 2024. But a season-ending knee injury that year partially prompted Cincy to draft Barrett Carter last April, which led to Wilson moving to the bench.

Wilson now gives Dallas a true middle linebacker, which they’ve really lacked all season. Jack Sanborn never worked out as a free agent addition, struggling when he did play and recently landing on IR with a groin injury. Rookie Shemar James has flashed a few times with big plays but his inexperience has been dreadfully apparent, too.

Dallas enters its bye week at 3-5-1, so some may see this as a new deck chair on the Titanic. But Wilson has two years left on his contract, so the move isn’t just for 2025.
