Cowboys To Sign DE Charles Snowden

The Raiders gave Charles Snowden an ERFA tender in March but ended up cutting him in May. Clearing waivers at that time, Snowden spent over a month in free agency.

That stay will come to an end, with veteran insider Jordan Schultz noting the Cowboys have an agreement in place with the edge rusher. A former UDFA, Snowden combined for 18 starts as a Raider over the past two seasons.

Las Vegas extended a tender to Snowden when a trade agreement involving Maxx Crosby was close. With the Ravens backing out of the deal not long after, the Raiders suddenly carried a crowded EDGE corps. The team signed Kwity Paye and brought back Malcolm Koonce. The team ended up trading Tyree Wilson to the Saints during the draft and using a third-round pick on Keyron Crawford. Days after the draft, the club waived Snowden.

Originally a Bears UDFA in 2021, Snowden made his way to Tampa before joining the Las Vegas practice squad in December 2023. That Antonio Pierce-era arrival paved the way for Snowden’s first meaningful NFL role.

After playing in just one game with the Bears and not playing at all during the 2022 and ’23 seasons, Snowden saw extensive action for the Raiders over the past two years. He logged a 38% snap share on the team’s Crosby-powered defense in 2024 and saw action on 32% of the Silver and Black’s defensive plays last year.

Although Snowden did not become a quality sack artist on poor Raiders teams, the Patrick Graham charge did combine for 4.5 sacks during his two full seasons in Vegas. Snowden, 28, intercepted a pass last season and combined for eight tackles for loss and six batdowns from 2024-25. The Virginia alum, whom Pro Football Focus ranked 44th among edge defenders last season, will battle for a depth role in Dallas.

Converting to a 3-4 base defense under new DC Christian Parker, the Cowboys made major personnel changes on the edge as well. They traded for Rashan Gary and used a first-round pick on Malachi Lawrence. Dallas also re-signed Sam Williams and has 2025 second-round pick Donovan Ezeiruaku signed through 2028. The team added James Houston and converted Marist Liufau to an EDGE role this offseason. That creates a crowded field here, and Snowden could end up a practice squad candidate based on Dallas’ situation.
