As the Dallas Cowboys opened mandatory minicamp Tuesday, wide receiver George Pickens made it clear he has no plans to hold out for a new contract and remains focused on helping the franchise pursue a Super Bowl.

According to The Athletic’s Jon Machota, Pickens said he is not disappointed that he did not receive a long-term extension and confirmed he will report to training camp despite playing the 2026 season under the franchise tag.

“What’s important to me is winning,” Pickens said. “Like I said from the beginning, I always wanna bring a Super Bowl to a group of guys that never had that feeling. That’s really the most important part to me.”

Pickens added that his absence from voluntary organized team activities was influenced by advice from his agent.

The veteran receiver signed the franchise tag in March after becoming one of the Cowboys’ top offensive playmakers. His comments provide clarity on a situation that could have become a distraction heading into training camp.

George Pickens focused on Super Bowl goal as Cowboys manage workload

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer also offered a positive update on Pickens’ status during minicamp.

“Great visits with George. He’s fired up to be back,” Schottenheimer said, according to Machota.

While Pickens is participating in minicamp, the Cowboys are easing him into on-field work. Machota reported that Pickens would not take part in team drills Tuesday as the coaching staff manages his workload.

Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reported that Schottenheimer described the receiver as “Coach Pickens” this week while he is gradually brought along.

Pickens’ commitment to attending training camp is encouraging news for a Cowboys team looking to rebound after missing the playoffs in 2025. With quarterback Dak Prescott returning and Schottenheimer continuing to implement his vision for the team, Dallas is counting on Pickens to be a centerpiece of the offense.

Rather than focusing on contract negotiations, Pickens emphasized the larger goal of bringing a championship back to Dallas. As minicamp gets underway, that message is likely to resonate throughout an organization searching for its first Super Bowl title since the 1995 season.
