As I am doing my normal routine on Monday when it came to the Dallas Cowboys, something I couldn’t help but see was a player that made to much sense for them.
In an article listing the Top 5 trade candidates at this stage of the NFL offseason, Auman listed Miami Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks. And his top landing spot for him? The Cowboys.
At first, I shook it off but after looking more into it, I thought to myself, why not? We know this wasn’t going to happen, but did we think that Jerry Jones would make the trade with the Jets in the middle of the season a year ago for Williams? I sure didn’t.
Yes, the Cowboys traded for Dee Winters during the draft and he is the man who is probably going to wear the green dot if not Overshown, but Brooks is a stud and makes them 100% better tomorrow.
DeMarvion Overshown, Dee Winters, Shemar James, and rookie Jaishawn Barham are the main three at the position. But depth is a serious question, especially considering Overshown’s extensive injury history.
Brooks is fresh off of a first-team All-Pro season after leading the NFL in tackles with 183. The author of 13 tackles for loss, Brooks is a difference-maker on the second level. The Cowboys could get him at a discount if Miami is indeed open to dealing him.
The reason that this makes sense is that the Dolphins might be the worst team in football this year with all the rebuilding they have already started doing. Jalen Tolbert is their best wide receiver right now. Yes, that Jalen Tolbert.
Brooks is in the final year of his contract, his salary cap hit is $7.865 million, the acquiring team assumes the remaining base salary and active roster bonuses.

That is not bad at all for an All-Pro player. Use him as a rental this year and just go for it, the Rams made a trade for Myles Garrett. Go do it.
My honest guess would be that Dallas would not even have to give up that much to get him. From what I have seen, all that Miami would want is a second round pick or an early day three pick.
Dallas has roughly $13.1 million in cap space, so Jordyn Brooks would be a steal for an All-Pro player. Brooks makes the team’s biggest defensive hole a strength the moment he gets in the building, and is an elite fast run-stopper.
Again, this is all smoke and It will not happen, but I look around and see teams make trades like this all the time and think to myself, why in the heck would you not reach out and make your team better?
We may never understand the way Jerry Jones does things, and to his credit this offseason has been the best...
