The sub-par Dallas Cowboys defense will be even more depleted on Sunday as the team will be without one-time All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs against the Washington Commanders. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer revealed Friday that Diggs suffered a concussion following an accident at home.

Schottenheimer didn’t disclose what type of accident occurred or provide details about what happened.

“We’re gathering information,” Schottenheimer said, via ProFootballTalk. “I just got that information walking over from our doctors and was in meetings all morning. But it happened last night.”

According to NFL reporter Josina Anderson, Diggs’ concussion “did not result from a dispute.”

My understanding is Trevon Diggs’ home concussion did not result from a dispute, I’m told. #Cowboys https://t.co/YQSiJbS5pw

Cowboys Defense Takes Another Hit

The loss compounds problems for a Cowboys defense that ranks dead last in both total yards allowed (411.7) and passing yards allowed (269.5) per game and 31st in points per game (30.7).

Diggs, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury in 2024, has struggled through the first six games of 2025. Pro Football Focus has him allowing a 154.9 passer rating while giving up 11 receptions for 216 yards.

The cornerback earned First-Team All-Pro honors in 2021 and made two Pro Bowls. Across 64 games in six seasons, he has recorded 20 interceptions — including two for touchdowns — and 63 pass breakups.

The Cowboys are 1.5-point home favorites against a Commanders team that will also be without star receiver Terry McLaurin.
