Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones cruelly roasted star edge rusher Micah Parsons in front of reporters on Monday.

The Cowboys are entering the 2025 NFL season with a new coaching staff, hoping to usher in a new era. They will count themselves fortunate that Parsons has reported for training camp amid suspicions of a holdout.

The 2021 first-round pick is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is yet to agree on an extension with the team, having also joined his teammates for minicamp while attempting to secure his bag. However, Dallas had extensions for Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb on the front burner and prioritized that bit of business.

Jones was in no rush to get pen to paper on a new deal for Parsons then, and it doesn’t appear that has changed.

As expected, the media had questions regarding the lack of an extension.

Jones, as he’s wont to do, came up with a roundabout excuse, claiming that signing Micah to a new deal doesn’t guarantee he will be on the team.

“Just because we sign him doesn’t mean we’re going to have him,” he said. “He was hurt six games last year, seriously.”

“We’ve signed, I remember signing a player for the highest-paid at the position in the league and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year in Dak Prescott,” he continued. “So there’s a lot of things you can think about, just as the player does, when you’re thinking about committing and guaranteeing money.”

Jerry Jones Added Two Games…

For the record, Parsons missed four games last season, not six. And, despite the double brace of absences, he made the Pro Bowl, landing 12 sacks in his 13 appearances.

Still, there’s always the possibility of being hit by a car.

“Contracts are four, five years, okay?” Jones pointed out “There’s a lot of water under the bridge if you step out there and do something in the first two or three. You can get hit by a car. Seriously.”

The team owner was asked whether he had spoken to the player and confirmed he hadn’t, claiming he’s had talks with middlemen.

Since entering the pros in 2021, Parsons has built a reputation as one of the best defensive players in the NFL.

It would be in the Cowboys’ best interest to keep him around. But Jerry Jones will be Jerry Jones.
