Troy Aikman picks NFC East team to win Super Bowl - Lawrence Dow, Fort Worth Star-Telegram

The former Super Bowl-winning quarterback is buying into America’s Team.

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman thinks this year’s team can end the franchise’s 30-year Super Bowl drought.

On Tuesday, May 13, Aikman was on Good Morning America when he proclaimed with his broadcasting partner, Joe Buck that the Cowboys are going to surprise the pundits.

When asked who they believed would win the Super Bowl, Aikman cited the Cowboys, and Buck picked the Buffalo Bills to win their first-ever title.

Former New York Giant great Michael Strahan was in the background and playfully chided Aikman for the selection.

The oddsmakers don’t agree with Aikman, with FanDuel Sportsbook giving the Cowboys the 18th-best odds to win the Super Bowl below teams like the Arizona Cardinals and the Chicago Bears.

FanDuel likes the Bills more, giving them the third-best odds to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

After adding George Pickens, the Dallas Cowboys offense appears ready to be one of the league’s most potent passing attacks.

Depth Chart: Battle for QB2 could be fiery matchup in Cowboys’ camp - Patrik Walker, DallasCowboys.com

Should Dallas trading for Joe Milton give him the edge over Will Grier in the backup quarterback competition?

Over the next few weeks, we’ll take a closer look at where things stand at each position. The Cowboys won’t release a depth chart until the first preseason game in August, so the following order of players is simply a projection, which of course, is always subject to change. Let’s continue the series with the quarterback position:

- Dak Prescott

- Joe Milton III

- Will Grier

Battle to Watch: Be not confused, there’s only one battle involved here, but it should be a doozy. For when Will Grier lines up at training camp, for the first time in his NFL career, he will have a fair shot at earning the role of QB2, now that the Cooper Rush era is officially over in Dallas. Contending alongside Grier will be Milton, acquired via trade ahead of the NFL Draft, and he brings his own skill set that keeps Grier pushing daily to try and not be overshadowed — again.

Time is Now: … for Grier? That is the question at hand, now isn’t it? An emotional Grier showed what he can do when he was released following the trade that brought Trey Lance to Dallas, going out in a blaze of glory in his final preseason game at the time. He was re-signed last November, but spent the entirety of his second stretch on the practice squad. If he wants to edge out Milton, he’ll need to channel that same intensity.

Trait-Mark: Milton has an absolute cannon of an arm....
