Should the New England Patriots be monitoring a difficult situation going on with the Dallas Cowboys?

News out of Dallas doesn’t sound promising when it comes to a potential long-term relationship between All-Pro defensive end Micah Parsons and the Cowboys, who have been entangled in a contract standoff with each other.

Some Patriots observers have recently come out and said that New England should pursue Parsons if and when he hits the trade market.

Executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf only fanned the flames of such an idea by coming out recently and saying that the Patriots are open to making a big trade.

Patriots supporters pushing for Parsons were smiling when ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter provided a gloomy update on the Parsons-Cowboys situation.

“You can’t get a deal done if you’re not even talking,” Schefter said on Monday during a new episode of “The Adam Schefter Podcast”.

“And the two sides haven’t had any negotiations since late March or early April. And it sounds like at this point, it’s personal; it sounds like each side has dug in. The Cowboys have come out and said what they said publicly at the start of training camp, which Micah didn’t like. Micah came out and asked to be traded and said he was ready to move on from Dallas, which I’m sure they didn’t like. And right now, both sides seem to be angry.”

“Now, have other people put those feelings aside in the past and figured out a way to work out a deal?” Schefter continued. “Yeah. I don’t see that happening here. I see these two sides headed towards divorce in time. The only question is, when is that divorce gonna happen, and how is it gonna happen?”

Whether or not the Patriots (or any other teams) have a real chance at acquiring Parsons before the regular season was not made clear by Schefter, but it sounded more like Parsons is likely to be traded at a later date.

“Are they gonna trade him now?” Shefter continued. “Are they gonna trade him after this year? Are they gonna move on? When? But it certainly doesn’t feel like these two sides want to enter a long-term relationship together. That’s the way it feels today, and we’ll see if they do anything to change that before the regular season begins in a couple of weeks.”

So you’re telling me there’s a chance!

The Cowboys are set to open up the NFL regular season when they visit the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on September 4.

The Patriots, meanwhile, will get their slate started on September 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders at Gillette Stadium. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel will be looking to begin his tenure with an important home victory.
