The Dallas Cowboys went to halftime with a 27-15 lead over the Washington Commanders in Week 7. They dominated offensively, with Ceedee Lamb, George Pickens, and Javonte Williams all pitching in. But one of the few times they could not move the ball, their kicker bailed them out. Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey now has five 60-yard field goals in his career, which is a new NFL record.

The FOX Sports broadcast reported that Aubrey’s 61-yard field goal in the second half was the fifth of his career. That gives him the most of all time with no signs of slowing down. After an NCAA Soccer career at Notre Dame, Aubrey has made an incredible impact on the NFL.

The Cowboys are firing on offense, with their defense costing them plenty of games so far this season. Aubrey is a key part of that offense, shrinking the field for the actual offense and routinely adding points to the board that other teams would not get. That was a key to the first half, as he hit easily from 47 and 61.

The Cowboys won’t get very far with their current defense. Even a struggling Commanders squad has been able to put up some points in the first half. For as great as the offense and special teams have been, they are on the outside of the playoff conversation because of the defense. And Aubrey’s bionic leg can only help so much.

The Cowboys will look to put away the division-rival Commanders in the second half. Their running game has taken a massive step forward with Williams instead of Rico Dowdle, and Prescott is having another incredible season. Can Aubrey kick them into a playoff berth no one saw coming after the Micah Parsons trade?

Aubrey will almost certainly add to his 60-yard record in the coming weeks. Dallas heads to Denver in Week 8.
