The Dallas Cowboys absorbed a tough blow against the Minnesota Vikings at AT&T Stadium on Sunday after running back Javonte Williams suffered a shoulder injury.

He sustained it in the first quarter and has been deemed questionable to return, according to The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

It’s an unfortunate development for the Cowboys, who are scrambling to solidify their spot for the playoffs. They are sitting on a 6-1-1 record.

They have won three of their last four games—although they’re coming off a defeat to the Detroit Lions—with Williams being a key part of their league-best offense. They’re averaging 394.9 yards per game entering the game against the Vikings.

Williams is having a productive campaign in his first stint in Dallas, registering 215 carries for 1,022 yards and nine touchdowns.

Without him for the rest of the game, Dak Prescott will have to get a little more creative in moving the ball.

The Cowboys have won their last three meetings with the Vikings, all on the road. They will be in desperation mode in the final weeks as they try to stay in the hunt and return to the playoffs after last year’s absence.

While his status remains unclear, it is obvious that they cannot afford to lose the 25-year-old Williams in the coming days, as the Cowboys have already been middling in their rushing game.

After his rookie deal ended with the Denver Broncos, Williams said he chose to sign with the Cowboys because of his fit with the team’s offense.

As of writing, Dallas and Minnesota are tied, 14-14, in the second quarter.
