Micah Parsons dropped a bombshell that Cowboys fans suspected might come but were hoping would not, given the pass rusher’s decision to show up for training camp.

In a lengthy note posted to social media on Friday, Parsons revealed having requested a trade from Dallas, citing owner Jerry Jones’ attempts to lowball him by discussing contract negotiations without his agent but ghosting once the rep got involved.

Parsons also listed Jones’ taking personal shots at him in the media as one of the reasons he no longer wants to be on the team.

Cowboys reporter Jane Slater has since offered some perspective from the Cowboys’ side, claiming they were open to trading him two seasons ago because he rubbed teammates the wrong way; however, Jones was against it.

Micah Parsons Toned His Behavior Down Over The Last Few Months, Says Jane Slater

According to Slater, the team was annoyed by some of his comments during podcast appearances and his claims to be a leader but failing to act like one at various points.

“Nearly every player was in my office telling us we needed to do something about him,” she said one coach told her.

However, it’s believed that all of this changed over the last few months, and if Dallas were going to trade, it would have been before the 2023 NFL Draft, when he would have gone at a premium.

Of course, he would still command significant value now, but not as much as two years ago.

“I do think Micah turned some of that around in recent months,” Slater wrote. “Could it be contract motivated or maturity? Who knows. But if FO was gonna trade him the time was 2 years ago pre draft when the haul would have been massive.”

Slater suggests that both sides are to blame for how far this has gotten. However, she reckons the parties will work something out because Parsons will want to be out on the field for the final year of his contract, while Jones will not want one of his best players to either leave or become a distraction in the locker room.

“This is Dallas. But it shouldn’t have even gotten to this point,” she claimed.
