Blogging The Boys
With the NFL playoffs starting, it is a stark reminder that the Dallas Cowboys organization wasn’t good enough in the 2025 season. Their 7-9-1 record has them on the outside looking in, not a position any NFL fan wants to be in.
The list of problems is long, and they span the gamut of the franchise. Poor play from the players, especially on defense, is the easy problem to recognize. But any analysis of the 2025 season has to go deeper. Did Jerry Jones tank the season from the beginning when he traded Micah Parsons just a week before the season began?
Or was the hiring of Matt Eberflus the real start of the downfall? Even though at the time most thought this was going to be a positive for the franchise, Eberflus’ second term in Dallas as a coach was a failure that led to his quick dismissal this offseason.
The Cowboys had plenty of problems, but what about at head coach? How much was first-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer at fault for what happened? Well, if you listen to the fans, Schottenheimer was not a reason. In fact, in our poll of the Cowboys fanbase, a majority rated his performance as either an ‘A’ (9%) or a ‘B’ (53%). That’s a pretty decent endorsement for the head coach.
Additionally, as we head into the 2026 offseason, a very slim majority (54%) of Cowboys fans believe the franchise is headed in the right direction. The two first-round draft picks, plus the firing of Matt Eberflus have probably lifted spirits in that regard.
Just a reminder, our friends over at FanDuel have betting odds for all kinds of things throughout the offseason, including odds on the upcoming play off games. Remember to gamble responsibly!
