Cowboys exploring RB depth this week

Cowboys exploring RB depth this week
Inside The Star Inside The Star

As mandatory minicamp kicked off this week, George Pickens stole the headlines about him showing up and being ready to put football first and be there for the team.

Something every single media member hated yesterday after hearing his interview. They couldn’t stand that he is not causing drama as they wanted and to give them something to talk about on their show.

Nonetheless, the Cowboys are finally into an offseason with no drama and its a great thing to see.

With that said, they are always looking to add players for camp and to compete for depth roles, and that is exactly what they did yesterday by bringing in Zamir White for a workout.

Jaydon Blue?

With only 78 snaps last year as a rookie, maybe what the team hoped Jaydon Blue could become is slowing going down the drain.

Now, it is early in the summer and this could just be a body to add for camp, but they have other depth at the running back position right now, and bringing in a RB that is very similar to what Blue can do is interesting.

A former fourth-round pick of the Raiders, White never found his way to a number of things, and the first is clearly being a running back with the Raiders.

In his second year, he rushed for 451 yards at 4.3 yards per carry, but a disappointing 2024 campaign left him on shaky ground, and the Raiders drafted Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty No. 6 overall last year, and he even struggled while there in his rookie season.

Still, in his career, he’s averaged 3.7 YPC with just 25 forced missed tackles and 13 explosive runs on 198 attempts.

Right now, the current running back room is Javonte Williams, Malik Davis, Blue and Phil Mafah, who is hanging on by a thread.

I take this news with a grain of salt, and it is just random news to provide you all with right now in case you missed it. The only move I think they would even entertain at running back is if they brought Nick Chubb in for a visit. If that were to happen, then we could talk.

Let’s not forget about Hunter Luepke, who is the Cowboys fullback, but I don’t see why they don’t try and use him more as a runner. He starts to have his moments and then they just forget about him.

I think the Cowboys roster is all but completely outside of a few cuts that they will make this summer, but even if White gets signed it will just be a camp body. Maybe he could push Blue for his spot on the roster, but I would have to see it happen.
