The Dallas Cowboys are currently gearing up for offseason minicamp, which is slated to get underway next week. There has been plenty of chatter this offseason about wide receiver George Pickens, who signed a franchise tag with the Cowboys earlier this year.

Recently, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer shared an update on Pickens’ potential availability at minicamp.

“Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer hopes and expects George Pickens to be at minicamp next week
He has not been told by Pickens that he would be there. He also said hopes and expects are the same thing,” reported Cowboys writer Clarence Hill Jr. on X, formerly Twitter.

Pickens had an excellent season in Dallas last year, more than holding down the fort in the frequent injury absences of star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. When the two were on the field together, they formed arguably the best wide receiving duo in the NFL, allowing quarterback Dak Prescott to put together the best season of his NFL career in the process.

While the Cowboys’ offense put up Super Bowl-caliber numbers, the defense did not hold up its end of the bargain after the controversial trade of Micah Parsons, and the team has taken some steps to address that this year, including drafting Caleb Downs in the first round of the NFL Draft.

However, Cowboys fans will certainly want to see the team get something worked out with Pickens to keep him there long term, considering his relatively young age and the success he experienced working with Prescott last year.

In any case, the Cowboys’ 2026 season is slated to kick off on September 13 with a road game against the NFC East divisional rival New York Giants.
