The Cowboys are really depending on what they did this offseason to pay off soon.
Roster turnover year in and year out is part of the game in the NFL and the teams to best navigate this are also the ones who seem to be the most successful. The Dallas Cowboys have been more active than normal this offseason trying to upgrade their roster, signing free agents and making trades to help supplement their incoming rookie draft class. But, have they done enough?
That's unfortunately a question we have no answer to and won't until the completion of the 2025 NFL season. What we do know right now though is the Cowboys will be relying heavily on a lot of the new faces they've added this offseason, betting things work out for the better.
Today, we look at some of the more important personnel changes the Cowboys have made and how their play could be the difference between the season being a success or failure.
Even though father time caught up to Zack Martin, prompting his retirement, the future Hall of Famer won't be easily replaced. Tyler Booker has some huge shoes to fill and will be depended on to replace one of the all-time best guards to ever play for the Cowboys. How he performs in 2025 will play a big part in the teams success or failure this season.
For whatever reason, Brandin Cooks unfortunately never turned into the WR2 Dallas had envisioned when they acquired them via trade from the Texans. They have been searching almost desperately to upgrade that position behind CeeDee Lamb, leading them to trade for George Pickens. He should solidify and upgrade Dallas' aerial attack in 2025.
Like the song Blue (Da Ba Dee) by Eiffel 65, a small guy living in a blue world will be a big theme for the Cowboys rushing attack in 2025. Rookie RB Jaydon Blue is expected to be heavily involved early and often as both a runner and receiver for Dallas' offense this year, and how he performs could help determine the teams success or not this season.
DeMarcus Lawrence and Zack Martin were Dallas' longest tenured players, and now both are gone. They drafted Martin's replacement and quite possibly D-Law's as well, selecting Donovan Ezeiruaku in the second round. However, Dante Fowler, Marshawn Kneeland, and Sam Williams are also in the running to start opposite Micah Parsons in 2025.
Under Matt Eberflus' reign the Cowboys could be changing things up at LB, especially after signing Jack Sanhorn in free agency, trading for Kenneth Murray, and drafting Shemar James this offseason. We could see entirely new faces starting at LB for the Cowboys this year (unless DeMarvion Overshown returns) and that could be good or bad depending...
