Cowboys 2025 roster projection: Week 3 of camp
Blogging The Boys Blogging The Boys

We’re now over two weeks into the Cowboys’ 2025 training camp and getting ready for the first preseason game. Ahead of Saturday night, it’s a good time to refresh the roster projection and see where players stand before they put things on display against the Los Angeles Rams.

You can reference the last version of the projection if you want to see what’s changed from last week.

OFFENSE (24)

Quarterback (2)

Dak Prescott, Joe Milton III

How Milton performs in what should be copious amounts of preseason playing time will go a long way to deciding this one. He’s making the team no matter what, but will he be the undisputed backup? And if so, could that send Grier to the practice squad? We’re going to make that change now as a vote of confidence in Milton, and also to see how that extra roster spot could be used.

Running Back (3)

Javonte Williams, Jaydon Blue, Phil Mafah

Fullback (1)

Hunter Luepke

At this point, neither Williams nor fellow veteran Miles Sanders has stood out enough to make Dallas abandon their younger prospects. We already knew Blue was making it, and now we’re putting Mafah on the 53 with the projection that he’s going to have a strong preseason. Williams and Sanders will battle for the same roster spot, and right now, Williams has the edge.

Another strong possibility here is that they just go with two true running backs and add RB3 to Luepke’s growing list of roles. If Dallas decides to keep Will Grier or some new addition as a third QB, this wouldn’t be a bad way to create that roster spot.

Wide Receiver (5)

CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Jalen Tolbert

Jonathan Mingo, KaVontae Turpin

Will they go with six to keep a prospect like Ryan Flournoy or Traeshon Holden? It’s possible, especially if they do some of the moves we’ve discussed to open up roster spots. This five feels pretty secure, even with Tolbert’s quiet summer. He should probably be watching his back, though, if one of these younger guys really stands out.

Tight End (4)

Jake Ferguson, Luke Schoonmaker, Brevyn Spann-Ford

John Stephens Jr.

Spann-Ford is expected back from an ankle injury before the end of preseason, and we haven’t heard of anyone really stepping up in his absence. Stephens has never struggled to look good in preseason games, but he has to make it through the next few weeks healthy.

Offensive Line (9)

Tyler Smith, Cooper Beebe, Tyler Booker

Tyler Guyton, Terence Steele, Brock Hoffman
Asim Richards, Nate Thomas, Ajani Cornelius

No changes from last week, even after the signing of veteran La’el Collins. We’ll see what the 32-year-old still has to offer in the coming weeks, but Collins hasn’t played a regular-season game since 2022. He certainly wouldn’t make it as anything more than a backup, but which of the younger guys do you want to lose for that?
