Cousin of Steelers Owner Thinks DK Metcalf and Jalen Ramsey Are ‘Headcases’

Patrick Rooney Jr., the grandson of Pittsburgh Steelers founder Art Rooney Sr. and cousin of team president Art Rooney II, did not hold back on the idea of Pittsburgh making All-Pro outside linebacker T.J. Watt the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. He thinks the Steelers would be ‘absolutely insane’ to do so.

Patrick Rooney Jr. ripped the Steelers for acquiring DK Metcalf and Jalen Ramsey via a trade. He thinks both players are ‘headcases.’

“Ramsey is kind of a headcase,” Rooney said on the PBKC Picks podcast. “And this team is not generally conducive to being able to deal with headcases. AKA, George Pickens, who we just had to get rid of. And you bring in DK Metcalf, who’s a little bit like George Pickens — in terms of being a headcase. And now you got another one in there.”

Dave Hyde of the Sun-Sentinel in Miami recently revealed new details on why the Miami Dolphins traded All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Steelers in last the lockbuster trade earlier this month. It turns out Ramsey had a diva-like personality and the Dolphins were fed up with the antics. Ramsey was reportedly frequently disruptive in the locker room and late to meetings.

Ramsey, 30, has been one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL over the last decade. He is a three-time first-team All-Pro in 2017, 2020 and 2021, and a seven-time Pro Bowler from 2017-23. He won Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams after the 2021 season.

Initially drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Florida State, Ramsey has now been traded three times, first to the Rams in 2019, then to the Dolphins in 2023 and now to the Steelers.

Ramsey was traded to the Dolphins in 2023, and signed a three-year contact extension with the team in September 2024, but this spring both Ramsey and the team mutually agreed to part ways. The Dolphins needed to wait until after June 1 to make a trade.

The trade to Pittsburgh marked the third time in Ramsey’s career that he’s been traded. The Steelers will be the fourth club that the All-Pro CB has played for.

Aaron Rodgers is well-known to call out teammates publicly. That was the case last season when he threw Mike Williams under the bus. He called out Williams for running the wrong route — as he should’ve ran the “red line.” Metcalf also has a history of crashing out.

Former NFL defensive end and two-time Super Bowl champion Chris Long expects some commotion this season between Rodgers and Metcalf this season.

“When he was in New York — and I’m not taking a shot, but I don’t love seeing stuff that should be worked out in the locker room, worked out on podcast,” Long said on The Rich Eisen Show. “Metcalf has not always been the most surgical route runner. You...
