Leon Lett played defensive tackle for the Dallas Cowboys from 1991 to 2000, after being drafted in the seventh round out of Emporia State. Nicknamed “The Big Cat” for his rare combination of size (6’6”, 290 lbs) and agility, Lett was a disruptive force on the interior of the Cowboys’ defensive line. He played a crucial role in three Super Bowl championships and earned two Pro Bowl selections. Despite being known for a few infamous bloopers, Lett was a dominant lineman who helped anchor the Cowboys’ defense during their 1990s dynasty.
Best known for:
Lett was known for being a key defensive presence on the Cowboys’ Super Bowl-winning teams. But he’s mostly remembered for two memorable on-field gaffes, the Super Bowl XXVII fumble at the goal line and the Thanksgiving snow mishap in 1993.
Lesser known fact:
After retiring, Lett returned to the Cowboys as a defensive line coach from 2011 to 2022, helping mentor a new generation of players and continuing his Cowboys legacy off the field with the same passion he showed as a player.
