Could Cleveland Browns Target Amari Cooper Reunion? Top Beat Reporter Shuts Down Return Speculation

With Amari Cooper still available in NFL free agency, some Cleveland Browns fans are wondering if they could bring him back to improve the pass game in 2025. However, a notable insider for the team has shut down the idea of a reunion with the player they traded last year.

After Jerry Jeudy, the Browns’ wide receiver depth is fairly weak. For a team heading into a massive quarterback battle this summer, whoever comes out of the fight as the official QB1 needs more weapons in the passing game.

That is why a fan recently asked ESPN Radio Cleveland and The Land on Demand NFL insider Tony Grossi if bringing Amari Cooper back is a possibility. The five-time Pro Bowler is still available, and he was one half of a dynamic passing duo with Joe Flacco — the Browns’ QB1 favorite — in 2023. However, Grossi sees zero chance of Cleveland reuniting with the veteran pass catcher.

Amari Cooper stats: 44 catches, 547 yards, 4 touchdowns, 17.4 yards per catch

The Browns moved Cooper before last year’s NFL trade deadline. The third-rounder they received in the deal, was used to take Dillon Gabriel in April’s NFL Draft. He is one of the four signal callers competing for the starting job this summer in camp.

Grossi makes a fair case. Cooper did have a big down season in 2024, and he is 31 with 10 years of wear and tear on his body. However, last year was a setback following a pair of seasons with 1,160 (2022) and 1,250 (2023) receiving yards. With QBs that were far from elite.

Mattering on the price, trying to squeeze one more good season out of a player who knows the system isn’t a bad idea.
