Recently, the Pittsburgh Steelers released veteran running back/wide receiver hybrid Cordarrelle Patterson, which he hilariously announced on his own account on X, formerly Twitter. It was the latest in a slew of moves that the Steelers have made this offseason as they gear up for the 2025 NFL season, which will begin in just over a month.

Patterson has never been afraid of poking fun at himself, and recently, he took to his Instagram story to post a picture of himself mopping the floor, writing in the caption, “When you jobless! You mop at 11:30 pm n s***,” per TMZ.

Patterson also tagged the cleaning company whose supplies he was using.

“Breaking news (!!!) Pittsburgh Steelers release old washed up cordarrelle patterson on his day off!!!” reported Patterson on his own X account earlier this week, which fans on social media predictably had a field day with.

Patterson has indeed shown some signs of slowing down over the last few years, and it remains to be seen whether or not another team will be willing to take a chance on the aging vet.

An interesting Steelers team

Despite the release of Patterson, the Pittsburgh Steelers have had no reservations about investing heavy amounts of money in other players on their roster who are up there in terms of NFL age and mileage.

The most notable example of this is quarterback Aaron Rodgers, whom the team brought in this offseason to replace the Justin Fields and Russell Wilson tandem from a year ago that couldn’t do much outside of treading water.

Rodgers will turn 42 years old this season and didn’t provide a ton to be encouraged about during his recent stint with the Jets, but the Steelers are hoping that the future Hall of Famer will be motivated to turn that around this year.

Meanwhile, the Jets also brought in another aging star in Jalen Ramsey recently, sending Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Miami Dolphins in the process and puzzling some fans.

Only time will tell if the Steelers’ interesting offseason approach will end up paying off.

Pittsburgh will kick off their 2025 season on the road against, of all teams, the New York Jets on September 7.
