The New England Patriots rookies are set to report to training camp on July 13, with the first official practice set for July 23. However, a current trend among second-round rookies brings into question TreVeyon Henderson’s status.
On Saturday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Los Angeles Chargers rookie Tre Harris, who was selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, is officially holding out after missing the deadline for rookies to report.
Out of the 32 players selected in the second round, 30 currently remain unsigned, including Harris and Henderson. So, with Harris’s decision to holdout, will Henderson decide to do the same?
The issues mainly come down to guaranteed money. And that’s because Cleveland Browns LB Carson Schwesinger and Houston Texans WR Jayden Higgins are the only two second-round picks to have signed their deals, having received fully guaranteed deals.
Because of that, the other second-round picks are most likely looking for the same thing.
Henderson missed the first day of rookie minicamp back in May. However, ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported that “no reason was given by the team,” but “a team source said it wasn’t a major concern.” And then, a video posted by the Patriots showed him arriving the day after.
He was then a steady presence throughout OTAs and mandatory minicamp, having made an immediate impact by showcasing his speed. Henderson could prove to be an offensive weapon for the Patriots this year, but first, they have to figure out this contract situation.
