A long-running conspiracy theory has resurfaced on social media in the wake of George Kittle’s injury.
The San Francisco 49ers tight end is done for the season after suffering a ruptured Achilles in the first half of Sunday’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
The 49ers are through to the next round, having dug deep to leave Lincoln Financial Field with a win. But they won’t have their leader the rest of the way.
Claims regarding the electric power plant next to the team’s practice facility have reemerged, given what was the latest of a multitude of injuries this season.
“If you’re at the practice fields, look at the trees by the player parking lot, then look at the trees on the opposite side of the fields (nearest the electric substation) tell me what you notice…” one account posted.
Another replied, “Are you seriously telling me the trees by the substation have no leaves …. And no one thinks that’s a red flag!?”
They added photos of the supposed trees.
Niners wide receiver Kendrick Bourne also joked about the plant after reporters asked about George Kittle’s injury after the game.
San Francisco will play the NFC’s No. 1 seed, the Seattle Seahawks, in the Divisional Round next Sunday.
