The Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills both hosted free agent wide receiver Gabe Davis over the last two days, but Davis did not walk away with a contract. It appears that there are still red flags medically with him.

Davis had a visit with the Steelers in June as well.

“Gabe Davis was brought in for a medical follow-up. And when he came in free agency, the Steelers did not like, and subsequently other teams have not liked, what they saw from MRIs or whatever it was that they looked at following that knee injury that ended his season last year,” Mike Prisuta said on 102.5 DVE.

In a recent interview with Shane Gillis, Davis said he tore his PCL and meniscus last year. He was on crutches for three months and develop a blood clot in his calf. He also Just started training again.

The 26-year-old was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars with a failed physical designation in May after spending most of the 2024 season dealing with a knee injury that eventually caused him to have surgery and miss the final seven games of the season.

Davis began his NFL career as a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by Buffalo, recording 163 catches for 2,700 yards and 27 touchdowns through his first four NFL seasons.

The Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers and Denver Broncos were all tabbed as teams that could be opening to moving on from wide receivers as they are loaded at the position.

However, the Texans dealt wide receiver John Metchie III to the Philadelphia Eagles over the weekend, the Broncos traded wide receiver Devaughn Vele to the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday and the Packers have suffered several injuries at the position, likely diminishing any chances of them trading any of their healthy options. The Kansas City Chiefs also moved former second-round wide receiver Skyy Moore.

Meanwhile, the Steelers have stood pat. That could mean they are confident they’ll eventually land a player like Davis or they are simply happy with the current state of their room.

Either way, the start to the 2025 season is right around the corner and Pittsburgh is running out of time if it wants to make one last addition to the room.
