The Washington Commanders could look a bit different on offense in 2026. Washington hired David Blough at offensive coordinator, which should mean some schematic changes later this fall. One Commanders veteran praised the team’s franchise quarterback for handling the transition like an absolute pro.
Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin had nothing but good things to say about Jayden Daniels during a recent interview.
“Man he’s been amazing,” McLaurin told NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo on Thursday. “The thing about Jayden like he’s always been prepared. When he first got here in [2024], the first day of install he was already running the offense. So I think he does a great job of mastering the communication of the offense. He’s a really quick learner and he likes to have fun as well.”
Daniels is used to Kliff Kingsbury’s offense and will need to adjust to how Blough does things. But the way McLaurin tells it, Daniels is already sounding pretty comfortable in the new scheme.
“The biggest thing that’s standing out about Jayden [is] you’re starting to hear his voice even more,” McLaurin added. “He’s always had leadership qualities but you’re hearing him give the expectations of what he wants out of the route running from the receivers, what he expects from the o-line. Then in the meeting rooms after when we’re watching the film he’s been very good in communication.”
If Daniels can take a big step forward in 2026, it could have the Commanders looking like a fringe playoff team in the NFC.
“It’s just great to see the way he’s grown as a player and as a leader,” McLaurin concluded. “When you have that kind of talent and that kind of leadership, mixed with his work ethic, you have a great chance with a quarterback like that.”
It will be exciting to watch Daniels’ progression during his third NFL season this fall.
