The Washington Commanders held their last practice of the week as they prepare to host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football. Dan Quinn told reporters after practice that Jayden Daniels would be the starter after getting a full week of practice. He missed the Chiefs game on Monday night due to a hamstring injury from the previous week. Daniels will get to play with WR Deebo Samuel who has been dealing with a heel injury for the last month, but wasn’t in this week’s injury report.
Two players were ruled out before the official report was released. WR Terry McLaurin (quad) and TE Colson Yankoff (hamstring) will miss another game. McLaurin had just come back from a 4-game absence before aggravating his quad injury laying out for a pass. Yankoff will be missing his second game in a row with the hamstring injury.
DT Johnny Newton (ankle) and LT Laremy Tunsil (hamstring) both left Monday night’s game against the Chiefs with injuries. Dan Quinn said they are TBD for Sunday night, and the team listed both of them as questionable. Newton had been getting used at defensive end due to multiple season-ending injuries at the position. DT Javon Kinlaw suffered a shoulder injury vs the Chiefs, but he doesn’t have an injury designation. Joe Whitt will have to make more changes to the line if Newton can’t play this week. Brandon Coleman replaced Tunsil at LT after being a healthy scratch for the previous five games, and would likely get the start if Tunsil is inactive.
TE John Bates popped up on the injury report yesterday with an ankle injury but he practiced fully. Today he was limited and his status for Sunday’s game is questionable. Washington would only have Zach Ertz and Ben Sinnott available at tight end if Bates is inactive.
Kicker Matt Gay was a full participant in practice for the first time since getting injured. He was a late add to the injury report last Saturday with a back injury that forced him to miss the Chiefs game. The Commanders signed Matthew Wright for the game, but he only got to attempt one kick, an extra point, before being released the next day. Gay is expected to play this week, and doesn’t have an injury designation for the game.
