Commanders Vs. Bears – Studs and Duds
Hogs Haven Hogs Haven

This was a tough game to watch. It was clear that Washington was the better team, but costly turnovers and missed tackles ultimately determined their fate as they fumbled away a victory Monday night.

One thing that has become quite evident to me is that the aging veteran signings are starting to catch up to Adam Peters, as key injuries have piled up and many of these vets have simply not performed (cough, cough – Bobby Wagner). If Dan Quinn hopes to make a serious playoff push, some things need to be cleaned up and some changes to the lineup need to be made!

Washington will look to get things turned around as they get set to take on a reeling Dallas team on the road Sunday afternoon on a short week.

Below are my Studs and Duds of the game, followed by some notes.

Studs:

  • Chris Moore: I almost can’t believe I’m typing this, but Moore deserves his props for coming up with some big plays; none bigger that his acrobatic touchdown. He led the team in receiving yards (46) and had the score.

  • Trey Amos: Amos was great in coverage all evening and he finished second on the team in tackles with seven. He’s EASILY Washington’s best cover corner.

Duds:

  • Jayden Daniels: There are two stories to this “Dud” listing. First, without the play of Jayden Daniels, including the beautiful pass in the endzone to Chris Moore, the Commanders wouldn’t have even been in this game. However, the costly redzone interception in the first quarter, and two fumbles (one lost), one in a critical situation late in the fourth quarter with the game on the line, sealed Washington’s fate. He also had an intentional grounding penalty. You may disagree with Jayden being a Dud, but given the late mishandled snap, I see no other way to view it as that play cost Washington the game.

  • Mike Sainristil: Mikey REALLY struggled in coverage all evening, and it wasn’t like Caleb was dropping back 45 times and slinging the ball all over the field. He was saved twice, once on a would-be touchdown to Odunze, by penalties. He’s having a very rough start to the 2025 season.

  • Quan Martin: I was watching the game through three quarters and was thinking, man, Martin is playing a pretty strong game. Then came the back-breaking missed tackle on the 55-yard pass to Swift when it looked like the Commanders had taken control of the game. A completely unacceptable play that CAN’T happen.

  • Commanders Front Seven: This was tough to watch as Washington’s front was continually creased all evening in the run game. A lot of this goes on gap-integrity, however our linebackers couldn’t get off blocks and get to the outside. Bobby Wagner was especially poor both in run defense and coverage. Preston Smith was extremely bad versus the run. Frankie Luvu did make a few splash plays and Armstrong, Newton and Kinlaw...
