The Washington Commanders visited the Philadelphia Eagles today, and won 24-17. That win lifts their season record to 5-12, and now it’s time to get to work for next season. With Washington not in the playoffs, fan focus has turned to the draft, and where the team will be picking next April. The Commanders entered Week 18 projected to have the No. 7 overall pick, and that’s where they’re slated to pick in April. They couldn’t drop below 7, and they got some help from the Browns and Giants. A loss would have given them the No. 5 pick, but the Eagles backups couldn’t handle Washington’s Josh Johnson-led offense.

The Washington Commanders currently have six picks in next year’s draft, and could be picking up a 6th-round compensatory pick. Washington traded two of their original 2026 picks to the Houston Texans for LT Laremy Tunsil. Those second- and fourth-round picks will be a lot higher than Adam Peters expected when he made the trade following Washington’s 12-5 season that ended in the NFC Championship Game. There will be opportunities to trade down to acquire more picks, and player trades could also be an option before or during the draft.
