The Washington Commanders hosted the Dallas Cowboys on Christmas, and were defeated 30-23. That loss dropped them to 4-12 for the season, with one game left to play. With Washington out of playoff contention, fan focus has turned to next year’s draft, and where the team will be picking next April. The Commanders were projected to have the No. 7 overall pick entering Week 17, and that didn’t change after Thursday’s three-game Christmas slate.
The Commanders final game is against the Eagles in Philly. They won’t know the date/time of the game until Sunday. The Eagles host the Buffalo Bills at 4:25 p.m. Sunday afternoon, and we’ll know a lot more about the draft order, and whether Philly will have a reason to play starters in the final game.

The Washington Commanders currently have six picks in next year’s draft, and could be picking up a 6th-round compensatory pick. Washington traded two of their original 2026 picks to the Houston Texans for LT Laremy Tunsil. Those second- and fourth-round picks will be a lot higher than Adam Peters expected when he made the trade following Washington’s 12-5 season that ended in the NFC Championship Game. There will be opportunities to trade down to acquire more picks, and player trades could also be an option before or during the draft.
