Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Hartman doesn’t have a shot of winning a non-existent QB battle on his current team, but that doesn’t stop him from putting in the work.

In 2024, the Commanders waived Hartman, but he cleared waivers and then re-signed with Washington’s practice squad. He initially signed with the Commanders as a priority free agent at the conclusion of the 2024 NFL draft.

These days, he is fighting for his life to be the third-string quarterback.

He would have it locked down if it were up to the female fans.

After a recent training camp, Sam Hartman could be seen signing autographs when he was told by a fan, “Sam, would you mind saying hi to my mom, Susan, she thinks you’re super hot.”

Sam Hartman Has Rough Preseason Debut

Washington Commanders reserve quarterback Sam Hartman got an opportunity on Friday to potentially cement himself as the clear-cut third-string quarterback.

Instead, he made it much easier to possibly cut him.

The second-year pro completed nine of 19 passes for 64 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception in Friday’s 48-18 preseason loss to the Patriots. He added one rushing attempt for six yards.

That is simply not going to get it done.

The former Notre Dame quarterback played deep into the second quarter before being replaced by veteran Josh Johnson, who threw for 173 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Sam Hartman did lead the Commanders on a 12-play drive that led to a field goal late in the second quarter, but overall, it was a rough day for him.

Hartman and Johnson will continue to compete for the third spot on the depth chart in Washington’s second preseason game.

One preseason start won’t decide whether Hartman is Washington’s third-string quarterback, but he will need to play much better if he wants to remain on the roster.
