The Washington Commanders have been taking part in mandatory minicamp recently as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. Recently, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk made headlines when he said “Go Commanders” as part of a video posted to social media.

49ers tight end George Kittle recently weighed in on Aiyuk’s situation, stating that “…“I used to make it a habit of mine to go out early in the morning before meetings to watch him train because he’d always be out there early, and I watched him run over 22 miles an hour and watched him stop on a dime,” per Pardon My Take, opining that Aiyuk has “still got it.”

Now, JP Finaly of NBC4 Sports has weighed in on Kittle’s comments.

“George Kittle’s comments tell me 3 things: 1) BA has it physically. Ready to play, 2) BA brings some off-field noise to the team, 3) Niners players know BA is gone,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The last bit would probably come from Kittle’s quip that “…I wouldn’t be happy either after a team paid me a $130 million,” seemingly taking a dig at Aiyuk’s discontent.

Aiyuk missed the entire 2025 season for the 49ers after suffering a brutal knee injury midway through the 2024 campaign. Even prior to that, trade rumors had already begun to swirl around the star amid contract talks with San Francisco, and the Commanders have been floated by many as a sensible landing spot.

It remains to be seen how much Aiyuk has left in the tank after missing an entire season, but the Commanders would be smart to take a flyer on him, especially considering the offensive troubles they encountered during the 2025 campaign.

The Commanders are slated to kick off their season in early September.
