The drama between the San Francisco 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk continues to escalate, as the five-year veteran wide receiver has made some interesting posts about it on social media. Amid speculation that the Washington Commanders might be interested in trading for Aiyuk, head coach Dan Quinn refused to answer any questions about the situation.
Media members asked Quinn on Tuesday about his thoughts on Aiyuk wearing Commanders gear in his recent social media posts and what he thinks about possibly reuniting the disgruntled wideout with quarterback Jayden Daniels. But the 55-year-old head coach didn’t provide much of an answer, as he diverted away from it entirely.
“Not from my understanding, or have a comment about that,” said Quinn about Aiyuk. “You had to take a shot, I understand.”

Aiyuk posted some videos and images of himself on social media recently. In one picture, he is seen wearing a Commanders hat on his head, which led to many speculating that he wants to be traded to Washington. He also posted a video sharing a story implying that the 49ers are afraid to release him because they don’t want him playing for a different team.
A reunion with Jayden Daniels might be what Aiyuk is aiming for. The two played together for one season at Arizona State (2019-20) before the star wide receiver declared for the 2020 NFL Draft.
The 28-year-old wideout has not played an NFL game since the 2024-25 season. Aiyuk suffered a torn ACL and MCL ligaments in his right knee during an October 2024 contest against the Kansas City Chiefs that resulted in a 28-7 loss for the Commanders.
Brandon Aiyuk could have returned last season, but he held out for the entire 2025-26 campaign. After missing several mandatory team activities and rehab assignments, San Francisco voided Aiyuk’s guaranteed $24.935 million. Since then, 49ers general manager John Lynch has made it clear that Aiyuk will not play another snap for the franchise.
