According to the NFL official transaction wire, the Indianapolis Colts worked out a wealth of cornerbacks on Monday, including Isaiah Bolden, Tre Flowers, Keenan Garber, Daequan Hardy, Kennan Isaac, and Nik Needham.
The Colts also worked out center Jimmy Morrissey.
Among the biggest names on the list are Isaiah Bolden, Nik Needham, and former Colts defensive back Tre Flowers.
Originally a 2023 7th round pick of the New England Patriots, the 6’2”, 205 pound Bolden had 10 tackles (7 solo) and a fumble recovery in 10 games last season. He was released ahead of initial 53-man roster cuts this offseason.
Meanwhile, Needham was initially signed as an undrafted corner by the Miami Dolphins, who he played for from 2019-24. The 6’1”, 196 pound cornerback has appeared in 63 career games (27 starts), recording 200 tackles (143 solo), 6 interceptions (including a touchdown return), 25 passes defensed, 3.0 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery during his 6-year NFL career. He signed with the Cleveland Browns this past offseason before being released before initial 53-man roster cuts.
Lastly, there’s Flowers, who spent time on the Colts practice squad last season. The 6’3”, 203 pound cornerback 287 tackles (224 solo), 4 interceptions, 22 passes defensed, 2.0 sacks, 5 fumble recoveries during 95 career games (44 starts). He appeared in 1 game for the Colts last season, recording a single tackle. He was signed by the Chicago Bears this offseason, and was released as part of initial 53-man roster cuts, before being re-signed to their practice squad and subsequently waived.
The Colts are clearly banged up at cornerback with starter Charvarius Ward still in the concussion protocol, Jaylon Jones (hamstring) recently hitting injured reserve, and having already lost rookie Justin Walley for the season.
Former Miami Dolphins All-Pro veteran Xavien Howard also struggled last week after being routinely picked on by the Denver Broncos in coverage.
None of these free agent options could be realistically expected to ride in on their white horse and become a shutdown cornerback out there for Indy, but they could provide depth to a much depleted Colts cornerback room right now.
