The Indianapolis Colts had their first taste of the AFC South for the 2025 campaign and came away with a convincing 41-20 road win against their rival Tennessee Titans—which was music to Colts fans’ ears!
While it felt early on like an AFC South game, with neither side seemingly pulling away from the other, and a lot of field goals being attempted, the Colts were eventually able to break away in convincing fashion.
The star of the afternoon for Indianapolis had to be workhorse Jonathan Taylor, who rushed for 102 total rushing yards on 17 carries (6.0 ypc. avg.) for 3 rushing touchdowns, as well as had 3 receptions for 16 receiving yards.
In particular, Taylor’s 46-yard touchdown run against the Titans with 1:36 left in the third quarter was a thing of beauty, as he showcased everything on that long career highlight reel run, namely vision, elusiveness, athleticism, speed, and power:
While the Colts are clearly playing off Taylor as the focal point of their offense, Daniel Jones looked pretty good for a third consecutive week, making the right reads and avoiding turnovers. He had a couple of nice mid-deep balls, avoided pass pressure, and showcased his surprisingly nifty wheels late in the first quarter.
Jones completed 18 of 25 pass attempts (72%) for 228 total passing yards, a passing touchdown, 0 interceptions, and a passer rating of 113.4. He also had 4 carries for 27 total rushing yards.
For the Colts passing game, it was once again a collective effort, as a number of receivers were both effective and involved. Veteran wideout Michael Pittman Jr. led the Colts with 6 receptions for 73 total receiving yards (12.2 ypr. avg.) and a touchdown reception.
With veteran cornerback Charvarius Ward and 2nd-year pass rusher Laiatu Latu back in the lineup, the Colts defense played significantly better than last week. With 4.0 total team defense sacks (*two of those from Tyquan Lewis), Lou Anarumo’s unit was actually able to generate some pass pressure, and veteran Kenny Moore II’s pick six early in the first quarter off #1 overall pick Cam Ward set the tone for the rest of the game.
Colts 2nd-year kicker Spencer Shrader was 2 for 3 in his field goal attempts and made all 5 of his extra points. Shrader missed a 51-yard field goal attempt late in the 2nd quarter for his 1st miss of the season. Speaking of firsts, Colts punter Rigoberto Sanchez had his first and only punt of the season, it went for 46 yards in the 2nd quarter.
The Colts are 3-0 for the first time again since the team made a Super Bowl appearance back in 2009. They’ll head to the Los Angeles Rams next weekend for Week 4, looking to keep their early win streak alive.
