According to OverTheCap, the Indianapolis Colts have restructured veteran cornerback Kenny Moore II’s contract to free up $3.8 million in extra team salary cap space this season:
Obviously, the move has less to do about Moore II, and more about what the Colts may be thinking or planning on doing next roster moves wise—with the NFL trade deadline approaching on November 4th.
Per OTC, the Colts are currently projected to have around $7.9 million of available team salary cap space.
Maybe with the recent signing of former Las Vegas Raiders and Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Germaine Pratt, whose contract details are still undisclosed, the Colts are just trying to provide themselves a little more wiggle room in salary cap flexibility for potential roster moves going forward.
In particular, the Colts still have a need at starting cornerback, opposite Charvarius Ward on the outside, given their increasingly depleted depth at the position.
This latest salary cap maneuver is interesting thought to say the least, given the unique timing of it.
