It’s the dog days of summer as we approach Colts training camp.... how are you feeling? (Besides increasingly hot)
It’s officially the ‘dog days of summer,’ as for the Indianapolis Colts, free agency and the NFL Draft have passed—while we’re still a few weeks away from team training camp.
The Colts have already proclaimed that there will be an open starting quarterback competition between the incumbent, 3rd-year pro Anthony Richardson, and new free agent challenger, veteran Daniel Jones.
Richardson has the past experience and familiarity of playing for head coach Shane Steichen over the past two seasons, while Jones has the upper hand this offseason as a result of being able to fully participate in OTAs and veteran minicamp—while the former has been resting a sore previously surgically repaired right throwing shoulder.
While it should be a heated competition as the summer temperature and training camp ramps up, most Colts fans (56%) are hoping that Richardson ultimately wins the QB1 job outright over Jones (as well as rookie 6th round pick Riley Leonard):
Despite the uncertainty at starting quarterback this offseason, Colts fans are slightly optimistic that the team will eventually make the playoff this season.
Specifically, 56% of Colts fans believe that the team will earn an AFC playoff berth again, snapping the franchise’s drought—as Indianapolis hasn’t made the postseason since 2020:
While the Colts don’t appear to be a contending team in 2025, there’s talent on both sides of the ball—and they should benefit from playing in the meager AFC South once again, if they can actually take advantage of it this time around.
