Colts QB Anthony Richardson on dislocated pinky: ‘I’ll be good’

Indianapolis Colts 3rd-year quarterback Anthony Richardson indicated that ‘he’ll be good’ post-game after dislocating his pinky near midway through the first quarter in the preseason opener.

It happened after failing to pick up Baltimore Ravens edge David Ojabo, who was left unblocked coming off the right side, and delivered a big hit on Richardson (via NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo):

Richardson admitted that the ‘blown assignment’ was actually his, as he never saw Ojabo (or really looked to his right side at all), and failed to deliver the ball to his hot read, presumably the flat route to his running back.

It could prove to be a costly mistake for Richardson, who lost valuable reps in this one, much less to his primary competition for the Colts starting QB1 job, veteran quarterback Daniel Jones, who saw an extended look in the first half in relief of Richardson, who did not return.

The initial diagnosis is that ‘it’s not a big deal,‘ and Richardson was later seen throwing on the sidelines—and even attempted to return to the game, but was rebuffed by the Colts coaching staff.

However, it does potentially change how the Colts will decide to approach Game 2 of preseason hosting the Green Bay Packers next weekend. Jones was expected to start that preseason game—and still might, but it could mean Richardson sees more reps than he otherwise would’ve, had it not been for his finger injury Thursday night.
