According to head coach Shane Steichen on Thursday night, impressive rookie cornerback Justin Walley suffered a torn ACL during Tuesday’s joint training camp practice with the Baltimore Ravens and is out for the 2025 season:
It turns out that Richardson’s status wasn’t even the biggest Colts’ injury news of the night, as the rookie 3rd round pick of Indianapolis sees what would’ve been his pro debut season end before it even started.
The surprise early pick of this year’s draft class flashed early and often in training camp and was projected to be the outside starting cornerback opposite veteran addition Charvarius Ward, so far holding off the likes of returning corners Jaylon Jones, JuJu Brents, and Samuel Womack III for the CB2 role.
The Colts are already banged up as both Jones and Brents are dealing with hamstring injuries respectively, but Walley won’t be able to play at all this upcoming season. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see Indianapolis add another competent cornerback into the mix here late in training camp given their depleted cornerback room.
Jones is likely the favorite to start opposite Ward now, but if Brents could ever stay fully healthy, he could potentially push for the starting job given his impressive length, speed, and athleticism.
