It’s ‘do or die time’ this weekend in Denver for the Colts...
The Indianapolis Colts (6-7) looming Week 15 road matchup on Sunday against the Denver Broncos (8-5) will clearly be the most critical game of their remaining schedule—with each team’s playoff hopes very much on the line.
Both AFC playoff hopefuls are jockeying for position for the AFC’s final wild card, the #7 seed, which Denver currently occupies and would essentially clinch over the Cots with a win against Indianapolis this week (91% of making the playoffs then)—short of an epic late season Broncos collapse. A loss places Denver with a 51% chance of making the playoffs.
The Colts are still holding onto hopes for the NFL postseason themselves, as NFL.com indicated that their odds are still hovering around 25%. However, a win against the Broncos causes that percentage to soar to 51% (which is also Denver’s if handed an L this weekend).
A loss realistically sinks Indy’s odds though, with just a 6% chance of the Colts making the AFC playoffs as a final wild card team—if not victorious this weekend in Denver.
The Colts would still need to make up a game against the Broncos, but have a very favorable schedule to close out the 2024 year compared to Denver’s, so things would still remain fluid and could very well go down to the season’s final minutes.
