The Indianapolis Colts announced that starting quarterback Daniel Jones has been ruled out with an Achilles injury, which he suffered through non-contact with around 35 seconds left in the first quarter.
Jones was backpedaling on a pass attempt, trying to avoid the Jaguars pass pressure, when his right lower leg buckled—when he tried to subsequently plant and throw.
His fractured fibula that he was playing through was actually on his left leg. However, it’s possible that the complications from that fractured fibula left leg led to the latest lower leg injury for Jones—only on his right, with his once healthy leg trying to overcompensate.
For what it’s worth, Jones was able to walk to the Colts locker room and trainer’s table gingerly using his own power, escorted by Colts team trainers.
While nothing has officially been announced yet, it looks like it could potentially be a season-ending torn Achilles for Jones—which would be a 9-month recovery timeline for the pending Colts priority free agent.
The hope obviously is that similarly to injured Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner last week, it’s a calf strain instead, relatively speaking.
With Colts primary backup quarterback Anthony Richardson still on injured reserve, recovering from a fracture orbital bone suffered earlier in the year, Indianapolis turned to rookie quarterback Riley Leonard in relief of Jones. Needless to say, it’s a less than ideal situation for Indianapolis.
The Colts also announced that rookie defensive lineman J.T. Tuimoloau is being evaluated for a concussion, and cornerback Chris Lammons is questionable to return with a foot injury.
It’s been a rough stretch so far in Jacksonville once again, which has been their personal house of horrors—having not won there as a franchise shockingly since 2014.
